I may be a few minutes late for International Women’s Day but, I really felt the pressure to take the opportunity to say something about those women that have made an impact on my life or our world as a whole. But I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know how to say it. I don’t know if this is it but the fact that I feel so compelled, so inspired to say something, anything, was hard to ignore.
All day I’ve been tossing around what to say or how to say it and who to highlight and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s all of them... it’s every single woman that should be celebrated; every woman you know and don’t know, literally any human that identifies as a woman should be lauded. These are the people that, consciously or not, are making a difference because life is not, nor ever really has been the easiest for women. We’ve learned how to survive it all and how to give effort to change it for the better. Women who have sacrificed everything to make things better for other women who are doing their best just to get through it all...they all deserve to be recognized, appreciated, and celebrated. Some women have visible power and some women are just working their asses off to make sure their families are fed and I admire and respect each extreme with everyone in between.
I know that there are women working so hard to make a change, to make sure that we don’t need a “day” anymore and that perhaps today’s sentiments will someday soon be the constant norm. But I also want to recognize the women that don’t know what to say or what to do or how to do it or even if they can’t do anything (like type some words on the internet) but their soul, their heart, their dreams are there with those that can and will.
I admire, respect, and love everyone that is here in this fight for equality no matter what their role. Thank you for being here and being strong.
